What’s to come
Events to look forward to in 2021
March 5, 2021
It was Dec. 31, 2020 and the clock was ticking down the seconds to tell the new year. Midnight marked the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. As the year was almost here, most wondered what would happen next, if anything at all.
After the events of last year, many people are begging for 2021 to be just as average and normal as possible. Due to this, many people aren’t expecting much to come out of this year, but regardless, several events still might happen this year that people can look forward to.
Tokyo’s Olympics
For many sports fanatics, the cancellation of the summer Olympics in 2020, thanks to the coronavirus, was quite the devastation. However, the games may get the chance to shine this year in Tokyo on July 23, 2021 as long as the city can keep a low case count. The games will consist of the traditional events but also with some new additions including karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing.
COVID-19 vaccine
Of course, one of the biggest goals of 2021 is to finally see the end of the coronavirus pandemic or a serious slow down in cases. A step towards this goal is the vaccine finally coming out and being distributed to the masses. Some people working with the vaccine even speculate that well over several million doses could be sent out by the end of 2021 if everything goes as planned.
Concerts and Broadway
After a majority of concerts and Broadway shows were cancelled last year in March, there is a chance they may have a return this year. If the next few months go well, several shows may open back up as close as June and rumors that “Hamilton” may be one of the first. Concerts may stand a chance as well, but since tours take several months to years to plan, these may arrive later on in the year. Of course, for now, all events will have to follow COVID-19 guidelines until the pandemic is under complete control.
Celestial events
Space lovers may find some interest for this year with the many celestial events set to occur. Some of these will include a total lunar eclipse in May, annular solar eclipse in June, Perseid meteor showers in August and Geminid meteor showers in December. Several events will be able to be seen from Texarkana and since they can be viewed at home, social distancing won’t be a problem.
Several events in 2021 are on thin ice as the end of 2020 didn’t mark the end of the issues we faced. However, there still is a chance that some planned events may get to make their debut and give the people something to look forward to. Several events as well can’t be canceled because of the coronavirus or lack of people, so there is still something to look forward to in 2021.
