On September 12th, the annual VMA awards ceremony returned to the stage, and by no surprise, Taylor Swift swept her competition. Winning a total of 9 awards, Swift won in a variety of music categories. Her hit song “Anti Hero”–the standout track from her most recent album, “Midnights”– launchboarded this popularity. The song brought home the awards for Best Pop Video, Best Direction, and Song of the Year.
This is nothing new for the talented songwriter as she has a total of 14 trophies stacked up from previous years and from various categories. Swift also took home Artist of the Year, Show of the Summer, Best Pop, and Best Visual Effects, for a staggering number of awards.
Prior to the VMAs, Swift’s Eras Tour highlighted her evident popularity among teenagers throughout the world, along with many students at Texas High as many attended the show in earlier months of the year. Selling out NFL stadiums and hosting concerts not only in the United States but across the world, it’s safe to say that Taylor has outperformed and outshined hundreds of artists when it comes to popularity. Taylor displayed her talents as an artist who stuck out from the crowd, making her 9 victories even more sweet.
Swift taking over the VMAs truly shines the spotlight on how talented of an artist she’s become. From writing her own songs, creating her own choreography, crossing multiple genres of music, to directing her music videos, Swift showcases her creative talents when it comes to making music and connecting with her fans. Passing up talented artists such as Madonna, Justin Timberlake, and Lady Gaga in VMA total wins, she’s climbed the pyramid for over a decade now. At this rate, sooner or later Taylor will have the new crown as the number one artist with the most VMA wins.
