Netflix finally decided to give the world a slightly late Christmas gift by releasing the second season of the popular show “Squid Games” on Dec. 26, 2024.
A survivalist, dystopian series, “Squid Games” revolves around 456 people who are in severe debt, each selected to play child-like games for money. What the players don’t realize is that if they lose, they pay with their lives.
“My favorite moment throughout the season was when player 456’s (Seong Gi-Hun) friend was shot,” senior Julius Ricks said. “And, honestly, season one felt way more drama-filled, and I was irritated that player 456 kept making the same mistakes.”
Some students had completely different opinions when it came to this season, especially on how it ended, what was added, or what happened to certain characters.
“I loved how Thanos was just twirling around happily in all of the games and didn’t take anything seriously and I liked the six-legged pentathlon race with the Gong-Gi game,” freshman Karson de Los Santos said. “But I disliked the cliffhanger at the end and when Young-Mi was killed in Mingle after another player pushed her out. I was so devastated.”
Others specifically enjoyed the retaliation that some of the players had against the game staff, even if the ending of that moment wasn’t what they had hoped for.
“I liked the moment when the players started attacking the guards,” sophomore Zanasia Nelson said. “I was like, ‘finally, finally, finally’, but then they didn’t have enough ammo. I disliked how they had different games from the first season, it made it awkward.”
Despite holding differing opinions on what they liked and disliked about the season, most have similar theories that they saw online about the upcoming games or even what may happen to different characters.
“I heard online that the next game was going to be London Bridge where they kill a lot more people,” Ricks said. “I also heard that the Frontman might change his mind and let everyone else out.”
Others formed these predictions on their own.
“I honestly didn’t see any theories online at all,” said De Los Santos. “I believe in the London Bridge game the most. I think the photoshoot is a hint towards who will be alive after season three.”
This season showcased the emotional descent of the main character after constantly being unable to save everyone as planned. With the stakes now higher than ever, the theories of what may come add a lot of excitement and suspense for the viewers. It’s clear that season three will dive deeper into the psychological challenges the player will face, and we can’t wait to see it unfold.
