Walking the halls here, you can’t help but notice so many people from different backgrounds, races, and creeds. Even though there are many students who attend school here, one student stands out–sophomore Shaiquiar Smith who plays in the band.
In the school where most people are walked by unnoticed, she is one who is outspoken, though she might not be noticed having a good time with her friends. In this new year, Smith said she would like to see some changes at school and in her life.
“I would like to see the cafeteria change some of the food,” Shaiquiar said, “and would really like to see things change for my class.”
Though she is a optimistic person, Smith, is hoping to pass chemistry and all her Pre-Ap classes.
“Really, I would like to pass chemistry and make it out of my sophomore year,” Smith said. “It’s been hard so far, but I’m just ready to get it out of the way.”
Knowing that junior year is challenging, Smith is preparing herself to achieve the goal she has set for herself.
“Honestly, I’m not ready for my junior year,” Smith said. “I’m afraid it’s gonna be too hard, but oh well, just gotta get prepared.”
Smith knows the peer pressure of high school, but she is already for the distractions ahead of her.
“Yes, there’s peer pressure, but I just focus on me and what I do,” Smith said. “So, I mean it doesn’t affect me as much.”
Playing in the award-winning band, Smith is also a star on the piano, hoping to aspire to be a musician.
“I know a lot of people play basketball or football,” Smith said. “But I love the band. It is so fun, especially all the trips we go on and all the people we meet.”
Smith seems optimistic about her future.
“I would love to graduate with honors from Texas High and attend Texas Christian University,” Smith said. “I really want to become attorney in the future.”
