The second annual TexarCANa Kick Hunger Bowl is being held now through Friday. This event is a canned food drive against TASD, and the winner will be announced during halftime at the Texas-Arkansas football game.
“Last year, it was a very close race,” StuCo president Landon Forbes said. “This year we really need to get on it. We need to start strong, then we need to stay strong to Friday.”
StuCo will be providing incentives to bring in cans. The B2 class with the most cans wins a pizza party. Classes may also collect money; every dollar equals 5 pounds of food.
“The TISD campus that gets the most cans also gets a prize,” Forbes, a senior, said. “Last year’s winner was TMS.”
The district’s goal is to collect more than TASD and beat last year’s effort of 39,250 pounds.
“It adds a lot of excitement to Texas-Arkansas week,” Forbes said. “It really gets everyone going on the school level.”
The event is conducted to raise food for Harvest Texarkana.
“On the city level, it’s a great event,” Forbes said. “It helps replenish the food bank and helps the hungry of Texarkana.”
