The Texas High School Varsity Choir participated in the Region IV All-Region Choir auditions at North Lamar High School in Paris, TX on Oct. 6.

“I was actually very surprised that I made it past the All-Region competition,” freshman Madelyn Frost said. “I have never been to this competition, so I plan to hit it head on and do the very best I can.”

Those students earning placement in the Region IV All-Region Choir include: senior Jose Velasquez made 3rd Chair for Tenor 1, senior Amanda Garmon made 5th Chair for Soprano 2, freshmen Madelyn Frost made 6th Chair for Alto 1, freshman Jeremy Creek made 6th Chair for Bass 1, and junior Traviona Collins made 6th Chair for Soprano 2.

“I’m glad that I get to set an example for the younger kids that one day want to be a high school choir student,”  Collins said. “The songs for Pre-Area competition are very difficult, and some are even in different languages.”

These students will now move on to the Pre-Area Competition to be held on Nov. 27.

“As the concert gets closer, practices grow longer,” Collins said. “Practices have gone from thirty minutes with the teacher to a couple hours.”

The THS Choir is under the direction of Jennifer Colton-Fowler.
