TISD Executive Chef, Cory House, looks out of the window of his new food truck on August 8, 2019. The former Tigervision vehicle received an overhaul during the summer. “The food truck will be located out in the courtyard,” House said. “You eat off of the food truck with your lunch account, and if you’re eligible for free and reduced lunches you still qualify for the food truck for the same price you as would get a meal in the cafeteria.”

Texas High’s cafeteria meals will be changing for the better this upcoming school year thanks to culinary arts. On August 8, community and media members got a first look at the new mobile food truck that will be traveling to select schools in the district for breakfast and lunch.

The former Tigervision vehicle received renovations during the summer and is now the new Tiger Food Truck. Students will have access to numerous new food options like creamy street corn, Korean Chicken tacos, cucumber salad, assorted fruit and much more which can be found on the Texas High lunch menu

“The food truck will be located out in the courtyard,” TISD Executive Chef Cory House said. “You eat off of the food truck with your lunch account and if you’re eligible for free or reduced lunches you still qualify for the food truck for the same price as you would get a meal in the cafeteria. You will have a variety of options. We’re going to do cycle menus, so one day you’re going to have the option of different tacos. Another day is going to be crazy sub sandwiches.”

Texas High staff members wanted students to have a wider variety of nutritional options for breakfast and lunch. The TISD cafeteria staff will be preparing the meals based on Mr. House’s recipe. The school hopes that this will benefit everyone in the district from happiness to health.

“A lot of hard work has been put into this to make it a reality,” Chief Operating Officer Brad Bailey said. “We’re continuously trying to research and update all of our cafeterias across our district partnerships with us.”
