Students walk the halls, dressed up in their spirit day outfits. They’re excited to show off their school spirit during the week leading up to Homecoming.
Many love to dress up for the spirit days. They look forward to showing off their outfit to the rest of the school.
“[My favorite day was] probably the soccer mom versus barbecue dad,” freshman Adalei Driver said.
While some people loved this day, others didn’t know what to do. They ended up either not doing either or doing a combination of both.
“[I didn’t know what to do for] soccer mom versus barbecue dad,” junior Max Knight said. “I ended up doing both. [The] top half was barbecue dad, [the] bottom half was soccer mom.”
Some people had difficulties deciding what to wear. Despite these complications, many students dressed up almost every day.
“For Monday, I was a rapper,” Driver said. “[On Wednesday,] I was a soccer mom. [On Thursday], I put on my boyfriend’s clothes. [On Friday], I [was] a country club girl.”
In addition to these spirit days, another exciting event happened this week: two pep rallies. One for the community and to present the maids, the other for the students of Texas High. This put a lot of stress on some of the teams around campus.
“We’ve really kind of kicked it in high gear this week,” drum major Xavier Briggs said. “Our rehearsals have become more intense.”
The band shared the struggle with practice this week. The cheerleaders had plenty of difficulties themselves.
“It was a lot harder to prepare because there was a lot more stress,” varsity captain Shaniah Richardson said. “We have to practice more in the morning and after school every day of the week until the actual pep rally day.”
Cheer and band both struggled to get ready for these pep rallies. Highsteppers, however, didn’t have as much trouble preparing.
“[It wasn’t hard] because we opted to do the same dance for both audiences,” Highstepper director Amber Reynolds said.
Doing the same dance makes things easier for the Highsteppers. However, despite these more intense practices, many band students still look forward to the pep rallies.
“I’m excited. [We] get to see more school spirit,” Briggs said. “[I’m] excited about Homecoming. This week’s a big deal.”
This positive attitude applies to more than just the band. Most cheerleaders show lots of excitement about this week’s pep rallies.
“I feel like having two pep rallies is going to be really stressful,” Richardson said. “But it’s going to be rewarding [in] the end.”
