The library fills with chatter and chuckles. Students dressed in formal attire smile and stand behind tables as they serve teachers sandwiches, chips and cupcakes.
On Dec. 6, students transformed the library into a Christmas wonderland for an event that shows Texas High teachers how much the Rosebuds appreciate them. This event, better known as the Rosebud’s Teachers Tea, takes place towards the end of the first semester every year. The event shows teachers how much students value them and all that they do.
“The environment was really supportive,” sophomore Kathryn Snow said. “Everyone was in a good mood and excited to do this for the teachers.”
The Rosebuds committee and volunteers worked very hard throughout the day to set up and run the event.
“Ms. Guffey and Ms. Schandua let us take charge,” Snow said. “The majority of the whole thing was student run.”
The event took tons of behind the scenes planning that would not have been possible without the committee that was established to plan the event.
“So we have been planning for a while,” senior bake sale committee member Carly Hickerson said. “We had to organize what each grade level was going to bring as well as mapping out the library for where we were going to have everything.”
Even though the event is called the Teacher’s Tea, it’s meant for all of the Texas High staff, with their appreciation further shown through a gift given to everyone.
“The tea has always been held to honor not just teachers but staff members,” sponsor Jennifer Guffey said. “Another long standing tradition with the tea is that Rosebuds present staff members with a Christmas ornament.”
The Rosebuds members concluded that the tea continues to be a success for teachers.
“The teachers always appreciate the event,” Hickerson said. “It’s also a really good event that Rosebuds got to do to thank our teachers.”
