Students walk into their dreaded classes with innumerable amounts of coins, ready to postpone the class for as long as possible.
On Sept. 26, 2024 students across campus participated in Texas High’s “Stall Day” where they attempt to “stall” their teachers from teaching at the beginning of the class.
The students bring their coins to the classes they intend to use them in and the class may not commence only until all the coins have gone through counting by the teacher. The idea originated from the Leader In Me coordinator, Britni Huggins.
“Stall day is an idea we got from a conference we went to,” Huggins said. The concept behind stall day is students bring change, they put it on the teachers desk, and they stall the start of the class by having the teachers count the change they bring.”
This event not only acts as a fun occurrence for Texas High students, but also helps the Leader In Me members raise money for their campaign to help further support their future endeavors.
“My favorite part about this whole event is seeing Texas High come together and just seeing people participate and raising money,” Ricky Luna said. “Oh, you know, Ms Huggins, she was thinking [of] a way that she could raise money for a Leader in Me, and how we can just help out the students a little bit more.”
In addition to letting students catch up with their work, this day also gives the kids a good perception of working together, since in order to stall the class you must have a sufficient amount of coins. Additionally, the campaign also provides a gift to the class with the most money raised through the campaign.
“It’s fun. It helps kids get a sense of community,” Luna said. “Hopefully they’ll bring that outside of school and help others when needed.”
