On the first brisk morning of the year, on Oct. 9, 2024, staff and students gathered at the pole for prayer and worship. At first, a small group of students became a large crowd ready to connect and share their lives. Together, each came to create something special that morning for Texas High School.
Previously, the See You at the Pole meeting, traditionally held on the fourth Wednesday of September, did not have a large turnout due to staff and students’ lack of participation and publicity. A club at Texas High School called Light Club took the opportunity to set up another See You at the Pole event to bring faculty and students together.
“They really didn’t get the word out enough,” sponsor Greg Brush said. “So we wanted to do it this time, so we could have it where everybody could see it, it could be advertised, so we could get more people here.”
This is the first significant event that the Light Club has hosted for Texas High, but it plans to continue participating in the annual See You at the Pole and other events.
“As long as I’m here, I’ll be hosting it,” Brush said. “So it should continue for as long as I’m here.”
Coaches and teachers encouraged students to attend the event and experience what the Light Club offered. The Texas High cross-country team members attended to encourage other THS teams to participate.
“Our coach has done a really good job recently of trying to get us to, become more active in our faith with Jesus,” junior Lizzie Sharp said. “She encouraged us to go to See You at the Pole, and I had already planned on going, but that encouragement really helped me.”
Prayer session leader junior Iyona Foreman took a big step up to lead the group and encourage everyone to participate.
“My morning was not the best,” Foreman said. “So I thought about just letting someone else do it, but then I was like, this is for the Lord. I should do it because I know this is coming from the heart, and it‘s coming from the Lord himself, too. So I’m just happy that I was able go be here and just do that for everybody today.”
