Soft drinks, donuts, coffee, suckers and cards fill the teacher’s lounge throughout the year, each a symbol of respect for Texas High’s staff.
Since the second week of school, the culture group of the Leader-In-Me Club showed different ways to appreciate the Texas High teachers, each week placing a treat, sometimes big and sometimes small, in the lounge for their enjoyment.
On Sept. 27 for example, the LIM culture team gave to all the teachers.
“‘Fizzy Friday’ is for teachers to feel appreciated,” LIM Culture Sponsor Jordan High said. “It’s a chance for them to have a little treat on a Friday. We want to give them at least a little something so that they understand that they are loved.”
The culture group’s inspiration to treat and appreciate teachers sparked many ideas of different ways for them to show it in the past and the future.
“Teachers do a lot for the students,” sophomore Sienna Hart said. “So they deserve a whole lot [in return]. I think the teachers will be excited and happy about this.”
Other weeks attempted to involve a funny message as well.
“So far, we gave them Dum-Dum suckers,” High said. “And said that ‘we would be dum-dums not to appreciate you.’ We’ve also given them stickers as well.”
In fact, for this upcoming week, on Oct. 8, LIM will give the teachers donuts, with the theme being a little more seasonal.
“We’re calling it ‘Hocus Pocus, Here’s Some Donuts to Make You Focus’,” High said. “So we’re giving them coffee from Starbucks and donuts from a Nash bakery, and we’re just gonna continue to celebrate the teachers.”
Even after doing so much for the teachers, she and the group still have many more ideas and plans in mind for the days to come whenever they grasp the opportunity to appreciate them in even more creative ways.
“We do have plans for maybe providing breakfast at certain points,” High said. “We have a pencil packet that we’re going to be giving them some time this year and stickers with cards. It’s just we’re constantly finding ways to appreciate teachers every single week.”
All matters of treats aside, the club ultimately wants to show appreciation in hopes of allowing teachers to set different goals for themselves.
“The kids are also trying to give [the teachers] some WIGS, or wildly important goals. Every teacher knows they have personal stuff they want to work on,” High said. “Sometimes teachers lose focus on the fact that they are appreciated and that it’s not just about the school. They’ve got to worry about themselves as well.”
In this club’s constant steps toward helping the school grow culture within the LIM framework, teachers involved with the LIM culture team see growth in teamwork and fellowship while accomplishing goals.
“It’s amazing,” High said. “Because kids get to be creative while also doing something good.”
