Tables of recruiters and representatives line the Math and Science Building as excited students roam the halls, searching for information on how to get into their most wanted colleges with their parents.
On Monday Nov. 4, Texas High will host its annual College Night, allowing students to learn more about the college application process and available scholarships and visit with representatives from over 60 different colleges, universities and workforce programs.
“[College Night] is important for all students ninth through 12th grade, so as a freshman or a sophomore, it’s a good chance to meet a lot of different recruiters from different colleges all in one place without having to travel,” Administrative Assistant Laura Fuller said. “Especially for juniors and seniors, for many of the universities, the recruiters here are also the people that will look over their applications when they apply and scholarships as well.”
This night serves not only as a job for teachers and representatives to do, but it tremendously helps students of all ages prepare for or start thinking about the best colleges for them.
“I hope [College Night] will open their eyes to lots of new opportunities that’s available to them,” Fuller said. “I hope students will come out and learn some new things, see some colleges they’ve never heard of, and open their eyes to some new opportunities for their future.”
College Night also helped many students successfully apply to the colleges they ultimately decided to attend in recent years.
“You get to know the information about each college, I found out about TCU at college night, and now that’s where I want to go and I’m applying for it,” senior Hannah White said. “You’ll have on-hand people who can actually talk to you about the college in person.”
Neighboring high school students are also welcome to attend College Night, providing their students with the opportunity to learn valuable information about the application process with their Texas High peers.
“It is open to, obviously, our high school students, but we also invite our surrounding high schools,” Fuller said. “So you’re welcome to bring a friend if they go to another high school in the area. We just want everyone to take advantage of this opportunity.”
College Night will take place in the Math and Science building from 5:30-7:00 p.m. All students are encouraged to attend.
