With football season wrapped up, and America’s pastimes scheduled for the spring, Texas High’s athletic schedule must now make way for the world’s most popular sport.
Soccer is beginning their season with the Pleasant Grove Tournament on Jan. 12. The team has been practicing since Thanksgiving break, putting in hours of sweat and work to prepare for their vigorous schedule.
Senior D.J. Ingram has been with the team for four years playing defense and is nothing short of ecstatic for the new season.
“Our guys have been working really hard this year,” Ingram said. “We lost a lot of key players this year, but I think we have enough young guys stepping up to keep us getting the job done.”
With this being his final year on the team, Ingram has made it known to his team he has high hopes for this season.
“My goal for this team is to at least take the district title,” Ingram said. “It won’t be easy, but I have faith in my team and I’m really excited to have a great year with these guys.”
Ingram is not the only senior hoping to go out with his bang his last year on the team.
“We’ve got about 10 guys graduating this year,” Ingram said. “I realize that we’re gonna leave a pretty huge whole on the team when we graduate, but Coach has got these young guys prepared to take over, and I know they’ll be fine.”
With coach Mike Schroeder leading the charge, the Tigers are optimistic about having a great season. The team will wrap their regular season March 26 with a home game against Arkansas High. The will to win runs deep within the team, but fan reinforcement will surely boosts the team’s morale.
“We need our school to come out and cheer for us,” Ingram said. “It always helps to see people you know in the stands, and it definitely makes us want to play even harder and bring home victories.”
