I had no doubts that the Tigers could beat Arkansas High. For the game against Evangel Christian Academy, I am far less confident.
For years, Evangel has been a football powerhouse. Even though recent rule changes have hindered their productivity, they are still a much tougher opponent than anyone else on Texas High’s schedule. If the Tigers do manage to come back home with a win, the rest of the season will be a piece of cake.
Evangel is coming off of a 61-0 rout of Huntington (another local Louisiana school), while Texas High barely squeaked by the considerably less talented Razorbacks. If the Tigers are able to play to their best ability, they might–might–have a small chance of beating Evangel.
The Tigers biggest problem will be generating enough offense. The young group didn’t show too much flair during the opener, and they will struggle moving the ball against Evangel. The Tiger defense is stout, probably much stouter than Huntington, and should be able to prevent an onslaught from the Evangel offense.
Texas High and ECA have a storied history. In their most recent competition, Evangel beat the Tigers at home when Texas High was coming off a few successful seasons. The game before that one, however, the Tigers routed Evangel 45-10. It all depends on what Tiger team we get. If we get the football team that ran all over Pleasant Grove, we’ll be in great shape. But if we get the team that struggled against Arkansas, it will be a long night.
My prediction: The Tigers will put up a fight, but the bigger, stronger and more talented Evangel team will get the win.
