Texas High took down Mount Pleasant Oct. 6, winning the first three sets.

Starting off strong, the Texas began the first set 7-3. Mount Pleasant was able to come back towards the middle of the set, bringing the score to 14-12. At the end of the first set, the two teams scored  points back and forth, but Texas High came out on top with a score of 25-20.

“Volleyball is a momentum sport,” Texas High volleyball coach Melissa Hardy said. “Once you get that momentum, it’s hard to get it back, so we keyed on those weaknesses and we saw key players down. We served them.”

The second set began with points being claimed back and forth until the Texas prevailed with a stunning 9-4. Mount Pleasant had a difficult time catching up, and it wasn’t long before Texas High routed them 25-11.

“We stayed positive,” freshman Kaitlyn Cross said. “We focused on what we needed to work on during that second set.”

After Texas’ convincing win in the last set, the beginning of the third set was extremely close. Both teams scored back and forth until Texas High seized a substantial lead of 16-12. From there, Texas High stayed ahead of Mount Pleasant until Texas High won the winning set 25-20. Mount Pleasant lost all three sets.

Texas High’s strength was in their teamwork.

“I think it was a team effort,” senior Kristin McDuffie said. “We actually had fun. We talked, we cheered, and we just really tried.”
