Tiger football prepares for upcoming season
August 19, 2016
In previous years, the football team has been doing the same old dance to the same old song. Success in the regular season has been a friend of the Tigers, but the postseason has proved to be a unbeatable foe. However, the tides seem to be turning as pre-season activity indicates that this will be a special year for the Tigers.
It has been a busy summer for some of the Tiger’s key playmakers.. Senior quarterback Cade Pearson committed to University of North Texas to further his playing career. Senior slot receiver Quan Hampton has picked up two Division I (NCAA) offers, coming from Sam Houston State University and Texas State University. Along with these two young stars, the football team will feature more than 20 other seniors playing key roles in the team.
“All my life growing up, all I heard was talk of D1 players, because where I come from football is our only way out,” Hampton said. “I always was told I had the skill, but not the size- but God is amazing. There is more to come.”
After living in the shadow of last season’s disappointment, this year’s team looks to move beyond the first round of playoffs for the first time since 2009.
“I feel like we are very underrated . . .which is okay,” senior fullback Da’shawn Harris said.
“Soon we will wake everyone up, and show them this year’s team is something special.”
Finding their new identity this year, the season looks promising for this talented bunch. With the senior experience helping to guide the rest, talk amongst the town is that the 2016-2017 season should be one of the best in years past.
The Tigers will be playing Dallas Bishop Lynch away at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26.
