Lady Tigers trounce Lady Lobos
Tigers improve to 8-2 in district play with 43-20 win
January 29, 2022
The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Lobos of Longview Jan. 28, 2022, advancing their district record to 8-2.
Both the Lobos and the Tigers started off slow in the first quarter, with little offensive success. In spite of the offensive drought, the Lady Tigers defense held strong. At the end of a very quiet quarter, the Lady Tigers led the Lobos 11-4.
To start the second, the Texas offense came alive. The Lady Tigers defense came up with multiple big stops, keeping the momentum with the Tigers.
“Our overall plan was to just play fast,” senior Ashanti Northcross said. “We wanted to stay up and be hype throughout the whole game.”
The Lady Lobos were unable to overcome the Tiger defense, not scoring more than 6 points in the quarter.
Multiple Lobo turnovers opened up many Tigers fastbreaks, allowing the Lady Tigers to pull away midway through the second. The Tigers continued leading the Lobos going into halftime 25-10.
The third quarter was fast-paced and sloppy for both sides. Defense for the Tigers continued to smother the Lobos, allowing only three points to be scored in the third.
The Tigers traded turnovers with the Lobos throughout the quarter, however, the Lady Tiger offense continued to flourish in spite of the unforced turnovers.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers continued to run away with the game. The Lady Lobos continued to put up a fight offensively against the Tiger defense but were unsuccessful.
The Lady Tigers prevailed over the Lady Lobos, with a final score of 43-20. The Tigers will play Mt. Pleasant at Mt. Pleasant on Feb. 1, 2022.
“It felt good to come out and get a big win at home,” Northcross said. “It’s good for us going into a big game like Mt. Pleasant.”
