Visiting Tigers defeat Texas High
Lady Tigers drop first district match to Mt. Pleasant

The Lady Tigers fell to Mt. Pleasant with a score of 51-35 on Jan. 7, 2022. The Lady Tigers now have a district record of 3-1.
Mt. Pleasant put up a tough defensive press on the Lady Tigers first offensive possession, slowing and breaking down the Texas offense.
On the visiting side of the ball, Mt. Pleasant produced sufficient ball movement and generated a majority of their points through fastbreaks.Â
A tight ball defense shut down the Texas High Tigers early in the first quarter.Â
The Texas defense picked up in the closing minutes of the first, however, they still struggled to beat Mt. Pleasant’s press offensively.Â
Texas High had multiple turnovers, resulting in more fast break points for Mt. Pleasant.Â
Mt. Pleasant led Texas at the end of the first quarter, 20-5.
Entering the second quarter, Mt. Pleasant continued to put on a heavy full court press resulting in more Texas turnovers.Â
Texas entered a man defense in hopes to close the lane and slow Mt. Pleasant’s offensive success. Mt. Pleasant converted points from Texas mistakes.Â
Texas picked up a few fastbreak points from Mt. Pleasant’s turnovers. A strong Mt. Pleasant defense double teamed on senior Ashanti Northcross, further breaking down the Texas offense.Â
Mt. Pleasant’s junior Jordyn Hargrave led their offensive success with 17 points at the end of the second, and at halftime the Mt. Pleasant Tigers led Texas 31-11.Â
The third quarter was quieter for both teams, with both buckling down defensively with Mt. Pleasant scoring 12 points and Texas High only scoring seven points.Â
Mt. Pleasant’s defense continued to play a tight, physical defense and wound up getting a few stops at the basket.
The Texas offense came alive in the fourth quarter.Â
Mt. Pleasant pushed a fast paced offense against Texas, but the Tigers managed to get limit scoring in the quarter.Â
Senior Jalyn Golette made three consecutive steals resulting in fastbreak points for the Lady Tigers. In the closing moments of the quarter, Mt. Pleasant reapplied pressure defensively to slow down the Texas offense.Â
In the final quarter, Texas outscored Mt. Pleasant 17-8, but were unable to overcome the substantial that the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers created in the first half.Â
 The loss  makes the Texas High district record 3-1. The Lady Tigers will take on the Lady Mavericks of Marshall at Marshall Jan 14.
