The Lady Tigers dominated in their first round playoff match against the Huntsville Lady Hornets, sweeping the Hornets in straight sets 3-0 Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022. The victory sent the Tigers to round two where they fill face the Forney Lady Jackrabbits at the neutral site Sulphur Springs.

The opening moments of the first set were close. The Tigers and Hornets went back and forth trading points. Huntsville came up with a few huge blocks, giving them a 7-4 lead.

The Huntsville lead grew to 12-8, and the Tigers took a timeout. Junior Cy Hopkins came out of the timeout with three big kills for Texas, who then went on a run to gain the lead.

From this point on, the Tiger’s took on complete control of the entire match. The Tigers ran a fast, clean offense that kept the Huntsville defense off balance.

The Tigers took the first set with a final score of 25-16.

The remainder of the match was completely controlled by Texas, never truly giving Huntsville the chance to go on any runs. The Tigers did a good job setting and closing blocks, and they played a scrappy defense allowing them to run their offense.

The energy from the players and Tiger fans kept all momentum on the side of Texas, aiding them in their victory.

Ultimately, the Hornets were unable to overcome the quick offense, scrappy defense, and high energy of the Tigers. Texas took the second set 25-14, and the third set 25-15.

Going into their match with Forney, the Tigers are looking to continue running a fast paced offense, setting blocks, and keeping all the energy and momentum they built in their win against Huntsville to carry it over into the second round.
