The Texas High Tigers play Tyler Legacy on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024. The fast-paced game is expected to be one of many in the upcoming season. This will be the second year coach Colin Shilinglaw leads the Tyler Legacy Red Raiders as head coach. The difference in coaching techniques has created a different playing field for the Tigers.
“The biggest thing starting off this year is the unknown,” athletic director and head football Coach Gerry Stanford said. “When you get into week one with an opponent, which with a newer coach, you don’t have nearly as much game film as to what their tendencies are.”
While last year’s defensive side of Tyler Legacy appeared very talented, the returning and more experienced Offensive players will create a tide turn for The Texas High Tigers.
“We have some certain personnel packages we are going to implement,” defensive line coach James Hawkins said. “Some teams are a heavy run team and some teams are a heavy pass team, it all just depends on the personnel we’re going up against.”
Most recruiters and coaches often look at the technical aspect of how a game of football will be played, but students often think of their friends on a personal level while still remaining competitive for their school.
“From a fan standpoint [I’m] always afraid of injury, I hate when that happens,” senior Bryce DePreist said. “Everybody’s talking about our offense, but I’m excited to see how our defense comes together and plays.”
Texas High will have to be mentally and physically ready for the game Tyler Legacy will be willing to bring. Their fast past and ready attitude will challenge the Tigers to work systematically as a team.
“We want to see maximum effort in everything we do,” Stanford said. “Hustle and mental fortitude go a long way early on in the season. We want to keep the rhythm moving as consistently as possible.”
