Throughout their season, the Texas High TigerSharks have continuously dominated their competition to advance into their championship meets with a flawless record. On Sat., January 25 the TigerSharks will compete in their annual district meet at Texarkana College.
The district meet is the first of three championship meets. Swimmers who place in the top six in their events move on to swim in New Caney, TX for regionals. The TigerSharks work hard year around to prepare for the district meet ultimately making it to the State Championship.
“We don’t have to do anything special to prepare them as they have trained extremely hard all year” Head Coach Eric Vogan says “Out of the 26 kids going to the meet I expect at least 24 to move onto regionals.”
This year the girls team is adamant on regaining their title of district champs as they were beaten out by White House last year. The TigerSharks have pushed through excruciating practice’s all year to prepare them for this meet.
“Our main goal for the district meet is to reclaim our win streak for the girls which we lost last year due to the small size of our team” Junior Lillie Lefors says “Our girls are going to have to try and get podiums in all of their respective events. Which I have no doubt they can do”
Each member of the TigerSharks help each other to achieve their goals within swim. A positive force from fellow team mates pushes athletes to practice hard and compete at the highest level.
“I think we will definitely win the district meet despite not being rested.” Senior Max Likins says “I have led the team to be successful by leading by example, when I don’t give up in practice others see that and it pushes them to try hard
