Need a bouquet of flowers for your date or just as a present for mom? What about needing your nails done to go out Saturday night?
Sisters Sindy and Leslie Moya each have their own businesses that taught them the value of money and a strong work ethic.
Senior Sindy Moya started her flower business at the beginning of January, and even though she was passionate and excited for her startup business, things didn’t initially go according to plan.
“In the beginning, obviously I had no followers on my social media, so I had to throw it out there through to my friends and family,” Sindy Moya said. “And then from there people started to just message me and ask me to make some arrangements for them.”
With time, Sindy Moya’s business expanded, with her receiving orders almost every weekend.
“Right now it’s going pretty good. I get flower orders, usually on the weekends, and it’s been constant,” Sindy Moya said. “Since this summer, I’ve been getting like two or more orders per weekend, and it’s going better since I’ve gained more followers.”
She’s not the only person in the Moya family that has started her own business. Junior Leslie Moya, younger sister of Sindy Moya, followed her passion for designing nails as her business.
“Basically whenever I was bored I would always get my nails done, then I would see the process each time,” Leslie Moya said. “I would like to see the designs and so I started doing the nails because it was my nail technician that inspired me.”
With Texarkana having many nail technicians, it was a competitive field for Leslie.
“There are a lot of nail techs in Texarkana, but the people that support you the most, friends or people that are clients, support your business,” Leslie Moya said. “I try to post more content on my Instagram so people can see my work and book appointments if they like my work.”
Both sisters would sometimes share customers as they would both have the same contacts to make business with.
Junior Jazmyn Vazquez has been a customer to both Moya sisters and has enjoyed the service that they’ve provided.
“They’re really good at negotiating and they can do pretty much whatever you want,” Vazquez said. “Their prices are good, the quality is good and just everything’s pretty much good about their businesses.”
With the siblings each having their own business, it has taught them a lot to grow in ways that go beyond just personal growth. It has given them financial and marketing skills that will help them immensely in the future, further benefiting their businesses.
“I try to post more content on my Instagram page so people can see my work to see if they like my designs,” Leslie Moya said. “I think posting is the key for my business because if I don’t post anything, people would not see the products that I bring to the table.”
