Amongst the sea of cheering and barking plays, offensive coach Ryan Forbes stays calm throughout the game. Forbes, a new history teacher and football coach at Texas high, who transferred here from his previous coaching position, has coached previously for a while now.
“I’ve always liked working with kids. I loved football. I loved sports in high school” Forbes said. “It was what I did and who I was.”
Head football coach and athletic director Jerry Stanford persuaded Forbes to take the offensive line coach position, believing he could make a positive impact on the Texas High football team.
“He brings a ton of energy to our program, just a young coach with a really bright future,” Stanford said. “He cares about all of our kids. He just does a great job building relationships with people.”
In addition to Forbes’ new position here at Texas High, he has witnessed many different groups and perceptions of Texas High. Even though he’s from here in Texarkana, he has depicted many different cultures and people here at his new workplace.
“There is a lot of diversity as a teacher teaching my culture,” Forbes said. “It allows for such an interactive classroom. It is awesome to be a part of and I love it every day.”
Although different from his previous position, Forbes feels blessed to be a coach in his hometown.
“Texas offers a lot of different cultures, and, like I said, I’m a people guy, and that’s been a big difference,” Forbes said. “I’ve loved it ever since.”
While Forbes works here as a coach, his fiance, Carla Serra works as an athletic trainer. With their busy schedules, they make time for each other.
“It’s fun, being able to see your partner at work all the time,” Serra said. “Our schedules are also super busy, so we have to plan more intentionally our time together.”
