Throughout the school year so far, the Model United Nations club organized multiple fundraisers this year to raise money for upcoming trips, while also allowing members to bond and grow as a cohesive team.
Model UN attends conferences to debate on certain countries issues that are currently happening in our world.
“It’s helped us as people bond and helped the club bond a lot,” President Hudson Reed said. “We can all come together and realize the financial struggles.”
Hosting this fundraiser the students in Model UN raise the money to go to more advanced conferences and to be experienced in speaking on more important issues.
The fundraisers that this club hosts help the students to raise money for all of the members to attend the conferences, no matter what their current financial situation may look like.
“We try to make sure that the club has enough money to pay for the entire cost of traveling,” Model UN Sponsor Michelle Crane said. “We feel this helps ensure that all students who are interested can participate.”
Their plans are to raise enough money to attend a major conference that will be held in Houston, TX. As of November 2024, Model UN raised around $700 in total.
“We’re trying to raise money right now so we can go to Houston, which is the largest conference in the southwestern area,” Vice President Mariel Estrada said. “It also helps with keeping the members together, having them put effort in.”
Various fundraising methods contributed to the club’s success, including selling drinks and snacks at lunch and offering cookies to staff. The seniors created a list of ideas for items to sell in the upcoming year, helping them stay ahead and seize every opportunity.
“We had [the seniors] set up plans [before] school started,” Estrada said. “We had a whole calendar [set up].”
Model UN will host its next fundraiser at Friday Night Fun Night on November 15th. At this event, they will sell Hispanic foods to all attendees.
