Batter up projections
Tigers should take World Series
October 14, 2013
The St. Louis Cardinals advanced to the National League Conference Series along with the Los Angeles Dodgers. It will be a really good matchup, but the Cardinals will win the series four games to two.
The Cardinals have great depth on their roster with players that make great plays, including Matt Carpenter and Yadier Molina that have a combined 23 home runs.
Along with hitters, the team has a great pitching staff. Michael Wacha is one of the Cardinals’ pitchers that had a no hitter through seven innings on Oct. 7. This was only his fifth game, and he had nine strikeouts with an ERA of 2.78.
On the other side of the Conference Series, the LA Dodgers have a well rounded team with hitters that include Michael Young, Hanley Ramirez, and Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez leads the team in batting average, home runs, RBIs, and hits.
The pitchers for the Dodgers are going to have a hard time to trying to contain the Cardinals’ hitters. For example, their best pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, has 18 strikeouts and an ERA of .69.
In the American League Conference Series, the Boston Red Sox will be joined by the Detroit Tigers. Both of these two teams are great offensively, meaning that the match-up should be a shoot out of who has the best batters and best defense.
The Tigers will most likely end up winning the series four games to three, mainly because of their star hitters and pitchers. The Tigers have hitters that are second overall with getting on base that includes Victor Martinez, Austin Jackson, and Miguel Cabrera.
Not only can the Tigers hit, they can pitch too. Their star pitchers include Max Scherzer with 13 strikeouts this post-season and the lowest ERA of 3. Joining him in the top spots are Justin Verlander, Jose Alvarez, and Anibal Sanchez.
The Boston Red Sox will be a tough contender for the Tigers with their offensive hitters that have a combined Batting Average of .286 and an On Base Percentage of .390. Jacoby Ellsbury, Shane Victorino, and David Ortiz are the top leaders for the Red Soxs batters.
Their pitchers consist of John Lackey, Jon Lester, and Ryan Dempster. Jon Lester leads the team with 7 strikeouts and an ERA of .235.
The Tigers and Cardinals will most likely advance to the World Series. Between the Cardinals and the Tigers for the World Series, the Tigers will come back with more fire this year since they lost to the San Francisco Giants last year. But, the Cardinals also haven’t made it back to the World Series since 2011 because of a loss also to the Giants in the League Series in 2012.
The Tigers will most likely win the World Series four games to three because of their star pitchers and great hitters.
