Chants of “Who ya with?” echo from the Tiger Camp pep rally from cheerleaders, and freshmen answer with “T-High!”
On Aug. 12, parents and freshmen attended Tiger Camp to get an introduction to the high school atmosphere before the start of school. Student council members led campus tours, distributed bus passes and student IDs, and answered questions about student life at Texas High.
“Tiger camp is for the freshman to get an idea of what the campus is like and learn about the traditions and chants that we do,” sophomore Meredith McPhaul said.
Upperclassmen divided the incoming freshmen into groups and gave them personal tours around campus, answering questions along the way.
“This year was different because we played games as a group, and our divisions were more organized,” sophomore Meredith McPhaul said.
Many students volunteering to work the event pointed out some of the improvements and differences from this year compared to the previous. Some of these included the tour routes, interactive games, and overall presentation.
“Although a lot of aspects of Tiger Camp were similar to last year, one difference we had was [checking in] the students in the PAC instead of the gym,” sophomore Kateleigh Brook said. “I think that having the students enter the PAC first was an easy way to prevent cluster or confusion.”
Freshmen participated in games and activities in places such as the Dan Haskins Student Center, The Pit and classrooms to familiarize themselves with the campus.
“My favorite part was the pep rally,” freshman Alayna Wilson said. “I liked the high steppers.”
